ELDER'S CORNER

GOD IS IN CONTROL

It was a bad weather! I was in the lounge area in Hongkong's Airport and I could see through the big glass curtain walls of the terminal how strong the rain was outside. One could only see faintly the blurred images of airplanes that have been taxiing to get to their gates. Where planes used to land one after the other, in this very busy airport, not one has landed in more than 30 minutes.

Suddenly the fear of flying in bad weather seized me. I have been through this before. The plane usually manifests physical stress as it cuts through the rains and as the wind slash through its wings. The ride becomes bumpy and scary.

As my mind was temporarily occupied by a flow of negative thoughts, the Lord has put to my remembrance the words from 3 pilots, my husband Bobby, my brother Wally, and my nephew John. They said that when the airplane is airborne, it is very safe even if occasionally it may pass through bumpy air pockets. You are 33,000 feet above the earth and even if it drops a thousand feet you still have 32,000 feet of air cushion between the plane and the land.

This thought has given me reassurance that the flight will be safe. I prayed for God to hold the plane in His hands as we sliced through the rains and the thick dark clouds. The plane was shaking and the overhead racks were squeaking. But I had my eyes fixed on Jesus and was no longer concerned about my inordinate thoughts.

The plane pierced through the dark clouds and on to its established flight air corridor. And lo and behold! The flight was smooth all throughout our journey.

Our lives often bring us to moments of worries and anxieties where we bring ourselves to a state of fear or depression. The pictures that are presented to us are dark and gloomy: like my flight, experiences we tend not to see the smooth ride behind the rains and the wind.

The Lord is always behind the dark clouds waiting with a smile and with His outstretched hands for us. HE IS IN CONTROL OF OUR LIVES.

1Pet. 5:7 "Cast your cares upon me who cares for you."

We must always feel secure in God's hands because He has promised it to His servants.

Reflection:
When were those moments that you were seized by fear because you seemed to be facing uncertainties that dampen your hope? What was the outcome of those experiences? Share.

Prescription for today:
Isa.41:10 "Fear not, I am with you be not dismayed, I am your God."

  • SIS. TECHIE VISITS KTM/HOLY TRINITY COMMUNITY IN INDONESIA

Upon the invitation of Fr. Yohanes Indrakasuma, founder of the Komunitas Tritunggal Mahuduras (KTM), Sis. Techie went to Indonesia to speak to the youth in Malang center of KTM. She went there as the Catholic Fraternity’s Regional Head for Asia. She was accompanied by Bro. Froilan Hong and Sis. Judith Almendrala. Sis. Techie reported that it was a trip that the Lord has prepared for her to see the community, learn from the founder Fr. Yohanes, and be inspired by the Lord in introducing a new approach in giving the Spirit Empowerment Seminar (SES).

The Lord has given her several revelations that confirmed her thrust for Prayers and Works as inseparable.

Sis. Techie and company planed in to Jakarta at 1PM on Monday 5 July 2010 from Manila via Singapore. As soon as they got out of the airport 3 Carmelite nuns were waiting for them and took them to a 6-hour trip to the KTM Center in Cikyanere arriving there at 7:30 in the evening.

They spent the next day touring the 16 hectares hilly campus with Fr. Yohanes personally bringing them to the various places and explaining and recounting the stories behind each structure or place.

By two o’clock in the afternoon they prepare for a 4-hour trip to the KTM house in Jakarta where they stayed overnight for the early flight to Malang the first Center of the KTM.

Taking the 8AM flight to Malang they arrived at 9:30AM and proceeded to a welcome “brunch” at the house of Sis. Julia with the presence of about 25 members. They were then brought to the Malang Center and had lunch at 2PM. They rested for a while then toured the facilities in Malang. They had a private mass in one of the intimate chapels of the Carmelite officiated by Fr. Yohanes.

In the evening Sis. Techie gave her talk to the 1000 youths of KTM. She connected very well with the youth by starting her talk with her love story. It was a riot. The youth just loved and followed her for the photo ops.

Early Thursday morning at 7:15AM they were brought by Two Carmelite nuns to Malang airport for their connecting flight from Jakarta to Manila.

By 9PM Sis. Techie and company arrived safely back home. A very fruitful trip arranged by the Lord!
